Playtech recently introduced its new online slot based on the film The Mask of Zorro. The slot has a Scatter Wild feature that plays with the character’s popular Z mark. Meanwhile, Aristocrat Gaming released years ago its own version of a Zorro-inspired slot which has a player-controlled bonus feature.
Both video slots are full of fun features and eye-catching graphics. But for fans of online slots and Zorro alike, it is worth checking which of the two Zorro-themed slots has the upper hand?
The Mask of Zorro Slot by Playtech
The Mask of Zorro’s iconic characteristic is the Mark of Zorro feature. Zorro’s Mark appears at random during the normal and Scatter mode of the game. Symbols marked by Zorro turns into Wild symbols. The feature can turn four, seven, or 10 symbols into Wilds.
Another feature is the Secret Cave Bonus that is unlocked with three Bonus Candlestick symbol. The bonus is a two-level mode wherein players pick two out of six candles in the first level of the mode. Each candle rewards players with free games or bet multipliers. Players can extend the second level of the Secret Cave Bonus feature with three Bonus Candlestick symbols on the reels to get five more free games.
There are some missed opportunities with this Playtech slot when it references the movie. There are no video clips from the movie and the character symbols do not show a small animation clip when matched. Despite the shortcomings, the Mark of Zorro feature makes this slot standout. The random appearance of ‘Z’ fits Zorro’s personality in the movie.
Zorro Slot by Aristocrat Gaming
Aristocrat Gaming’s video slot features a player-controlled Zorro Bonus feature. To turn on the feature, players add a small percentage of their bet per spin. Zorro Bonus adds letters Z, O, R, R, O to the reels. One of five different Zorro Bonus features is triggered when all five of the letters appear on the reels, and these are:
Zorro’s trusty steed appears on screen to give players a random cash prize. Players can win up to 500 times their bet with this feature.
Players pick a Gold Coin to reveal a random cash prize amount. The bonus feature ends when players reveal two identical cash prize amounts among the coins.
This bonus mode shows Zorro and Tornado run across the reels and leaves a Z Wild Mark on one of the symbols. Zorro will leave three Z Wild Marks for each of the three free games in this mode.
There are four barrels in this bonus mode. These barrels give different numbers of free games and Zorro Multipliers, such as:
- 20 free games – Zorro Wild multiplier 2x
- 15 free games – Zorro Wild multiplier 2x, 3x, or 4x
- 10 free games – Zorro Wild multiplier 3x, 5x, or 8x
- 5 free games – Zorro Wild multiplier 5x, 10x, 15x
Players choose one of several doors to reveal a character in the first part of the game. In the second part, players receive five free games and the revealed character symbol gives a random cash prize.
This Zorro slot looks outdated when comparing it to Playtech’s video slot. Aristocrat’s game, however, showcase animations when Character symbols get matched. When it comes to winning, Zorro slot offers more payout features than Playtech’s The Mask of Zorro slot. But players need to risk more if they want to unlock the bonus features of Aristocrat’s slot game.
In terms of better payouts, Aristocrat wins this by a hair’s width. Zorro slot has many features that can easily increase a player’s bet in a short time in exchange for an additional wager in each spin. In addition, Zorro slot has an RTP of 95.5 percent which is higher than the Mask of Zorro’s RTP of 94.99 percent.
