To further the excitement for the upcoming main event, relive some of the astonishing performances from the MMA fighters. Here are three of the combined best knockout finishes from Cormier and Lewis
Stinging Hook from Cormier Sent Miocic to Bed – UFC 226
Then-Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic held a huge 7.5-inch reach advantage over the challenger Cormier and a 72 percent knockout record over Cormier’s 45 percent, all of which contributed to the betting odds of -188 in favor of the titleholder.
Early into the first round, Miocic used his length to his advantage, only for Cormier to close the distance inch by inch and to deliver this devastating right hook from a clinching position that eventually ended the fight.
Lewis’ Jab-Hook Combo Completes R3 Comeback – UFC 229
Lewis was losing the previous two rounds in the Khabib-Conor undercard to then undefeated Alexander Volkov. In fact, the Russian fighter outpunched Lewis by more than 80 strikes.
However, it was Lewis who landed the important winning strike. He stepped forward a little and threw a left jab to his opponent’s chin, which Volkov tried to defend. That punch was only a ruse as it left Volkov’s face wide open for the following right hook from Lewis. The shot sent Volkov to the canvass, which Lewis took advantage when he pounded the Russian’s head to victory.
No Chance Given by Cormier with Undefendable Head Punches – UFC 220
At the TD Garden in Boston, Cormier has defended his Light Heavyweight title against Volkan Oezdemir in a brutal match. An almost outclassed Oezdemir relied on wild Hail Mary attacks that the champion managed to endure. Cormier has ended his opponent’s misery, but only after inflicting pain.
Cormier completed a single-leg takedown on Oezdemir. After a quick sequence, Cormier moved to a side mount and pounded Oezdemir in the face. Oezdemir could not defend though, as Cormier’s head and leg prevented the movement of his right and left arm, respectively. Cormier won the fight and left his opponent’s head as red as an apple.
