You have probably heard of the artist Akon, but do you know about his futuristic city project Akon City?
The idea behind it is to create a city that runs on eco energy, implementing a native crypto called Akoin. Its construction and finishing touches should be done by 2029.
The project was given a 6 billion dollars contract to KE International. And whilst most people humored the project, Akon went out and finalized the deal this year.
If you wonder where will the city be based, the President of Senegal gave the star 2000 acres of land to build freely. Furthermore, the land is near the ocean and close to the Dakar airport.
The Akon City project signed a contract with KE International which is a company worth 6 billion dollars. By starting on the city, the firm received 4 billion dollars from investors for initial building phases.
Furthermore, Bakri & Associates Development Consultants will create the designs alongside KE International.
The phase one of the project will have a Hamptons Hospital campus, roads, a mall, residence, hotels, a solar power plant, a school, police station, and a waste facility. It should be done by 2023.
Phase two of the project will be executed from 2024 until 2029 with the cryptocurrency following up.
Moreover, another partner of the soon-to-be city is the state tourism agency in Senegal called SAPCO. They will assist the project with providing advice on tourism within the region.
Akon City is also expected to become the first one with LEED certification in Africa.
It will have two interlocking towers which will look like a recent work in Beijing by the Zaha Hadid Architects. Moreover, the design would incorporate a lake with a promenade which will make the towers come together in the end.
It will also have a couple of commercial and residential areas, but no further details are given.
An interesting element is that it may have Blockchain technology within the buildings. Such idea is not that weird, since Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects (EYRC) and Tom Wiscombe Architecture are working on a city powered by Ethereum in Nevada.
