COVID-19 Bars Fans from Attending 2020 Kentucky Derby

For the first time in its 150-year history, the Kentucky Derby will be run in front of zero spectators.

Horse racing fans looking forward to the 146th Kentucky Derby will have to settle with celebrating the Churchill Downs race in their home, as all upcoming races for the week will run but without spectators.

Horse racing is the latest sport to bar fans from attendance as a means to prioritize the safety and health of everyone during the coronavirus pandemic.

Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI), the organizer of Kentucky Derby, said in a statement:

“Churchill Downs and all of our team members feel strongly that it is our collective responsibility as citizens of Louisville to do all we responsibly can to protect the health, safety and security of our community in these challenging times and believe that running the Derby without spectators is the best way to do that. We deeply regret the disappointment this will bring to our loyal fans.”

The announcement regarding the upcoming 2020 Kentucky Derby, which will take place on September 5, follows the decision of Indianapolis 500 to push through without any spectators. The same protocols are being done by other sporting tournaments and leagues in the US, specifically NBA, MLB, and The Masters.

The 2020 Kentucky Derby, which is a popular event even among online fiat and Bitcoin sports betting fans, usually gathers around 150,000 attendees annually. But with the Derby getting rescheduled from May to September, along with adjustments made in regard to safety measures, CDI had planned to welcome a maximum of only 23,000 spectators.

However, due to increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Louisville, Kentucky, as well as across the US, CDI decided to finally bar fans from going to any of the Churchill Downs race for the Derby week.

An estimated revenue of 400 million USD was to be expected from the 2020 Kentucky Derby had there been no restrictions placed. Sports bettors, on the other hand, loses their chance to score big payouts while betting on the venue. Fortunately, they can turn to online sports betting and select the best Bitcoin casino and sportsbooks where they can bet on Kentucky Derby with Bitcoin.

Everyone looking forward to wagering on their favorite horses for the upcoming 2020 Kentucky Derby with Bitcoin should first know the effective horse racing betting tips and strategies online.
