US Open 2020 winner Naomi Osaka is skipping French Open, but French Open 2018 winner Simona Halep is back to take the cup in Paris.
Naomi Osaka to Skip French Open
After reigning supreme in the US Open last week, one would have thought that Naomi Osaka would continue her supremacy in Paris.
Fans of Osaka would have to be contented with her second US Open Grand Slam title for now as the American-born tennis player is skipping French Open.
Citing hamstring injury, Osaka, who represents Japan, will miss the action on clay when the Roland Garros opens later this month.
Osaka, however, is yet to land a podium finish on clay, as she peaked only at the third round since 2016. But despite this, her absence would mean one less athlete to challenge the frontrunners like Simona Halep, Kiki Bertens, Serena Williams, and Garbine Muguruza.
Simona Halep Eyes Grand Slam on Clay
Bitcoin sports betting odds give their nod at Simona Halep as the most likely player to win French Open 2020.
The Romanian tennis ace skipped US Open so she could focus on her training for the upcoming Roland Garros.
Halep reportedly said:
“I feel comfortable on clay, I have always been. I have been training and playing on clay for months, which is strange, as we are not used to that. I hope I can play at my best in Rome and Paris.”
Currently playing in Rome for the Italian Open, she holds a strong clay performance based on the last three years’ results. She reached the final round in 2017 and eventually won the Grand Slam crown the next year. In 2019, however, her campaign ended after losing in the quarterfinal round. Adding to her experience was her final-round match in 2014.
Sportsbet.io gives Halep 4.71 odds to win the French Open Women Singles. Cloudbet, on the other hand, predicts that the trio of Bertens, Williams, and Muguruza would complete the top 4 with 9.95, 11.3, and 11.8, respectively.
Serena Williams to Get 24th Grand Slam
We earlier reported that Serena Williams might skip French Open 2020 because of health concerns. But the tennis superstar revealed after losing in the US Open semifinals that she would definitely play on the clay.
She, however, pulled out of the Italian Open because of an Achilles injury that she got while playing against Victoria Azarenka in the semis. But the American grand slam champion has reportedly started her preparation for the upcoming French Open later this month.
