Clubs consider removing the controversial pay-per-view model for matches taking place after the international window this November.
UPDATE: Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters announced that the League would no longer use the pay-per-view model for its matches.
Instead of fans having to pay to watch their favorite Premier League clubs, the league will be looking to provide an alternative for matches scheduled after the break.
Nothing, however, is final yet as of Thursday’s shareholders’ meeting, but reports confirm that discussions regarding the matter are ongoing. If the move to come up with an alternative is pushed, fans would no longer need to pay the 14.95 EUR fee.
The Premier League said in a statement:
“Discussions with all stakeholders are ongoing and a broadcast solution will be announced in due course.”
The alternative being talked about is the model utilized in September, wherein all Premier League matches were aired live via the league’s broadcast partners–Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime, and the BBC.
While no plans have been finalized, the remaining fixtures this month that would not be shown live would be available for pay-per-view.
