Why The Simpsons’ Cryptocurrency Segment Is Beyond Epic

The longest-running television series The Simpsons featured cryptocurrency and blockchain for more than 80 seconds in episode 13 of season 31, giving crypto and distributed ledger technology a massive mass exposure.

But why is the crypto community making a big deal out of this?

The Simpsons, which boasts over 30 years on television, has over four million viewers on the average. This means that last Sunday’s episode titled Frinkcoin reached millions of viewers across the globe and introduced them to how cryptocurrency and blockchain work.

“TV’s most beloved scientist” Jim Parsons, the actor behind the popular character of Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, led the brief explanation and even hinted a prediction that cryptocurrency is, indeed, the “cash of the future” as eventually fiat money will be replaced by cryptocurrencies:

“I’m a consensus of shared and synchronized digital data spread across multiple platforms from Shanghai to Grenada. Each day I’m closer to being the cash of the future. Not in your wallet; I’m in your computer.”

Highlighted in the over-a-minute-long skit are the features and uses of cryptocurrency, including the ability of users to access cryptocurrency anywhere in the world, to pay for items in real-time, as well as to play games and bet online. In fact, at the 0:39 mark, Parson pulls a slot machine lever and hits the jackpot. Countless numbers of coins with the “b” symbol engraved on the surface spew out of the machine.

The Simpsons Slot Machine

The inclusion of a slot machine is a nice touch as iGaming was among the few first industries wherein Bitcoin, the very first cryptocurrency, found its first success.

Bitcoin casinos began emerging in 2009 as more users look for different ways that they could utilize cryptocurrency. Over time, the sector popularized Bitcoin dice games, which allow for micro transactions and for players to manually check the fairness of each dice roll. Since then, the crypto gaming sector has continued to make a mark in the iGaming industry.

The Simpsons’ said segment further cements the role and existence of cryptocurrency and blockchain in mainstream media. Although more people in different countries have entered the crypto world, a significant percentage of the word’s population today are yet to know more, understand, and experience how cryptocurrency and blockchain changes the way of living.

In effect, as more popular mainstream projects like The Simpsons give the spotlight to crypto and blockchain, the more people will begin to adopt this technology. And the crypto gaming sector can excellently provide a first-hand experience of how real-word transactions transform with cryptocurrency.
