Poker Players Have Alternatives Amid PKR Shutdown

The Isle of Man-based PKR closes its poker rooms indefinitely. The reason for the shutdown is financial problems that the owners of the company are facing.

PKR is currently looking for a way to resolve its finances. In the meantime, poker enthusiasts can still find the same kind of thrill in different poker room websites.

Financial issues

The PKR poker room site that tapped Microgaming Poker Network last year suspended its services on May 3. Players did not receive any prior warning before the date. They simply received a message that the website is close due to a routine maintenance.  Even the PKRTech.com site was also down.

Everyone was left in the dark for a number of days. Many continue to be worried about the situation since the players’ funds are still on the website and there are no methods for any player to withdraw his funds from the poker room. Players panicked even more when the website announced the reason behind the shutdown. To veterans of the poker room, the situation is similar to when the site was a victim of a DDoS attack.

TonyBet and BetOnline.ag offers Bitcoin poker

On May 5, Microgaming released its official statement on the status of PKR. It stated that PKR has submitted an application for an administration order to the UK court as a way for the company to protect itself.

Unfortunately for PKR players, there are no guarantees that they will get back their funds. Everyone’s money is currently in a state of limbo since it held within the room and it is not with the network itself. The network is not responsible for everyone’s money, so there is no guarantee that the funds will return any time soon.

At this time, the owners of PKR are receiving financial advice from experts and the company is asking all PKR affiliates to suspend all promotional activities. Affiliates are also asked to remove links, banners, and other marketing tools that link to PKR.

PKR alternatives

PKR was ahead of its time when it introduced its 3D Poker Room. Fortunately, there are many alternatives to the legendary poker room while the company sorts everything out. Two good examples are TonyBet and BetOnline.ag—both of which accept Bitcoin.

There are many tournaments available at any time that offers large guaranteed prize amounts. Each event has different buy-ins which make it more accessible for any player.  Players can even find freeroll events that will give winners a free entry to tournaments that have a large prize pool.

Both Bitcoin poker rooms offer new players a sign-up or welcome bonus to give every new player a head start. TonyBet is giving new players a free sit to an event that has a €2,500 guaranteed prize. New players at BetOnline.ag, on the other hand, will get a $5,000 freeroll on the first deposit.
