Responsible Crypto Gambling

Free gambling helplines in the US, UK and Australia, why self-exclusion misses offshore casinos, blocking tools and crypto-specific steps to stay in control.

Gambling with crypto has the same maths as gambling with cash: the house edge wins over time. What crypto adds is speed. Deposits arrive in minutes, there is no bank to stop a payment, and a wallet holding coins you meant to keep is only a few clicks from a casino cashier. If that speed is working against you, the help below is free and confidential.

Why self-exclusion may not reach crypto casinos

National self-exclusion schemes such as GAMSTOP in the UK, BetStop in Australia and the state lists in the US apply to operators licensed in those countries. Most crypto casinos are licensed offshore, for example in Curaçao or Anjouan, and are not connected to those schemes. An exclusion you set up at home will not stop you signing up at an offshore crypto casino. That is why the steps below matter.

Crypto-specific safeguards

  1. Keep gambling money separate. Use a small, separate wallet for gambling and never connect a casino to the wallet that holds your savings.
  2. Leave friction in place. Keep long-term holdings on an exchange account or a hardware wallet that takes effort to move from. Many exchanges let you set withdrawal limits or whitelist addresses.
  3. Remember transactions are final. There is no chargeback on a blockchain. Once you send coins to a casino, the only way back is a withdrawal the casino approves.
  4. Think in your own currency. Write down what a deposit is worth in dollars, pounds or euros when you make it. Small amounts of BTC add up faster than they look.
  5. Watch the price, not just the game. A balance held in a volatile coin can lose value even if you stop playing. Stablecoins remove price swings but not the house edge.
  6. Keep records. Many tax authorities treat using crypto to gamble as a disposal of the coin. Rules differ by country, so keep dates and amounts of every deposit and withdrawal.

Tools inside and outside the casino

  • Set deposit limits and a cool-off period in your casino account before you start. Our rating method marks casinos down when these tools are missing.
  • Use the casino’s self-exclusion if you need a break, and close the account.
  • Install blocking software such as Gamban or the free BetBlocker on every device.

Warning signs

  • Moving coins you planned to hold into a casino after a loss
  • Gambling to make back a market drop, or the reverse
  • Hiding wallet activity from a partner
  • Playing longer and with larger stakes to feel the same excitement

If two or more of these sound familiar, call one of the helplines above.

Minimum age

You must be 18 or older, and older where your local law requires it. Crypto casinos ask for ID when certain thresholds or checks are triggered; using someone else’s account or documents is never acceptable.

Frequently asked questions

Does GAMSTOP or BetStop block crypto casinos?

No. Those schemes apply to operators licensed in the UK and Australia. Offshore crypto casinos are not connected to them, so use blocking software such as Gamban or BetBlocker as well.

Can I reverse a crypto deposit to a casino?

No. Blockchain transactions are final. The only way to get coins back is a withdrawal approved by the casino.

Where can I get help with gambling in the US?

Call or text 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), the National Problem Gambling Helpline. It is free and confidential.

Is gambling with crypto taxed?

It depends on your country. Many tax authorities treat spending crypto as a disposal, which can create a gain or loss. Keep records of every deposit and withdrawal.
