What is Bitcoin blackjack?

Bitcoin blackjack is ordinary blackjack played with a crypto balance. The rules, cards and strategy are the same as at any online casino; the difference sits in the cashier, where you deposit and withdraw coins rather than card or bank payments. Crypto lobbies offer three kinds of table.

Rules that change the house edge

Small print on the table felt matters more than the brand name. These figures show how each rule moves the house edge in percentage points, using eight decks with the dealer standing on soft 17 as the baseline. A negative number is bad for the player.

The 6:5 payout is the rule to avoid above all. It costs almost five times the whole house edge of a good game. Many European-style live tables use the no-hole-card rule, which costs a little; most crypto lobbies carry several variants side by side, so it pays to open the rules panel before you sit down.

Odds of winning a hand

Blackjack has an unusual shape. With six decks, the dealer standing on soft 17, doubling after splits and late surrender, a basic-strategy player wins 42.43% of hands, pushes 8.48% and loses 49.09%. You lose more hands than you win, yet the house edge is only 0.28%, because blackjacks pay 3:2 and doubled or split hands put more money on the table when you have the advantage.

Basic strategy: the decisions that matter most

Basic strategy is the mathematically best play for every combination of your hand and the dealer’s up card. Charts vary slightly by rules and deck count, but the core decisions are the same at almost every table.

• Always split aces and eights. Two hands starting at 11 or 8 beat one hand of 12 or 16.
• Never split tens or fives. A hard 20 is strong, and a pair of fives is better played as a 10 for doubling.
• Double on 11 against a dealer 2 to 10, and on 10 against 2 to 9.
• Stand on 12 to 16 against a dealer 2 to 6 (except hit 12 against a 2 or 3), and hit them against 7 or higher.
• Never stand on soft 17 or less. Hit, or double against a weak dealer card where the chart says so; a soft hand cannot bust on one card.
• Surrender 16 against 9, 10 or ace, and 15 against 10, where the table allows it.
• Decline insurance. It is a separate side bet with a far higher edge than the main game for a player who does not count cards.

Live, RNG and original blackjack compared

Live tables come in several forms. Classic tables seat seven players. Scalable games remove the seat limit: Evolution’s Infinite Blackjack deals one common two-card starting hand to an unlimited number of players, who then each play it as they choose, with four optional side bets (Any Pair, 21+3, Hot 3 and Bust It) and a Six Card Charlie rule.
