Fiat and Bitcoin sportsbook and casino Sportsbet.io no longer provides iGaming services to players based in Germany as the country begins to re-regulate its online sports betting market.
Online casino players and sports bettors living in Germany lost on Monday, August 17, their access to Sportsbet.io, following the betting site’s decision to pull out from the German market.
The decision was in compliance with the provisions laid by the German authorities for operators who wish to apply for the country’s online sports betting license once the new gambling regulation framework is finalized.
Sportsbet.io said in an email:
“As re-regulation of the German online sportsbetting market is in progress the German authorities have introduced a cooling-off period for any operator who has not yet applied and may wish to apply for the local online sportsbetting license in the future.”
The fiat and Bitcoin casino reminded Sportsbet.io affiliates to remove all Germany-focused marketing materials they use to promote Sportsbet.io. The Sportsbet.io affiliates team also clarified that commissions generated from German traffic before the exit would be paid nonetheless.
In January this year, a new federal gambling framework came to fruition after 16 states in Germany agreed to create a new set of regulation to oversee online casino and poker products starting July 1, 2021.
In the case of Sportsbet.io, whose online sportsbook and casino is licensed but not in Germany—along with other sportsbooks and casinos with the same case—it has opted to exit the said market. This, according to reports, is one of the conditions set by the German authorities for online sportsbooks to follow if they intend to acquire a local sports betting license under the new gambling regulation framework.
Despite this recent change, Sportsbet.io still provides Bitcoin sports betting services and online casino games to players in selected countries.
