3 Negative Progression Strategies to Help You Win More

Betting strategies fall under two main progressive betting categories: positive and negative. Positive betting progression makes you increase the stakes when you win and decrease the stakes when you lose. Negative betting progression, on the other hand, makes you increase the stakes when you lose, and decrease the stakes when you win.

You might have already read articles online that claim using a negative progression approach while betting is a huge risk and is most likely just going to bleed your bankroll dry. But when used right, such approach can help you score some wins. One half of the secret is knowing that there are three negative betting progressions that you can easily learn. The other half of the secret is applying them. How? Find out below.

1 | Martingale System

One of the most popular negative progression schemes you cannot miss is the Martingale system. Over time, there have been many bettors tweaking the original strategy in the hopes of getting better results. But the most commonly applied variant of Martingale goes this way: When you lose, just double your bet, and keep doubling your bet until you win. This system can be used on bets that will pay out even money.

Say you want to spend the evening playing online roulette. When you lost US$6 on the first round, your next bet should be US$12. From this point, winning this round will give you double the amount of your original wager, recouping your loss from the first bet.

At first glance, the Martingale System looks logical as you just need to win once to recover your losses. But what if you hit a losing streak and keep doubling your bet? You could be making high bets in a short amount of time and still not win. To avoid a betting disaster, remember that you can stop using the Martingale system at any time, and lower your bet until you win.

2 | D’Alembert System

D’Alembert is a betting system best utilized in games that have an outcome of 50-50, such as roulette and baccarat. To apply this betting system, start a game with your base stake. If you lose, bet an amount that is one unit more than your previous bet. Each time you win, you decrease your next bet by one unit.

D’Alembert works well in the beginning, but when you hit a losing streak, the system shows its flaws. This is because each time you win; you do not increase your stake on the next bet. As a result, you cannot cover your losses in the event you lose. Oftentimes, you get higher chances of earning using the D’Alembert system when you keep your betting sessions short and set your base stake at 1% to 5% of your bankroll.

3 | Labouchere System

Roulette strategyThe Labouchere system is more complex than the Martingale and D’Alembert. For one, you need to first decide your target goal for the night. Say you want to win US$100 for the night. You can separate the US$100 into smaller numbers or parts that add up toward your goal. In this example, you can have a sequence in this way:

US$100 bet divided into 15 parts: 5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-10-10-10-10-10

How your sequence goes or how much you allot per division is up to you for as long as the parts sum to the target win which, in this example, is US$100. When you begin playing the game, just take the sum of the leftmost and rightmost numbers from your sequence. Basing on the example above, your first bet will be US$15. If you win, cross out the numbers from the sequence you used.

Winning the US$15 bet, your new sequence will look like this:

5 – 5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-10-10-10-10 – 10

Notice that one 5 from the leftmost side and one 10 from the rightmost side .have been crossed out Now you are left with 13 parts totaling to 85.

In the event you lose, do not cross out any numbers. Just add the number you just bet to the rightmost side of the sequence. If you lost the US$15 bet, your sequence will now look like this:

5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-5-10-10-10-10-10-15

When you have crossed off all the numbers in your sequence, you should have already doubled your initial deposit. Instead of hoping for a huge win after doubling your losses, as you would do in the Martingale system, you would win back your losses gradually after a few wins. Although the Labouchere system is best employed when playing roulette, it can also be applied to sports betting.

The challenge is applying betting systems without buying into the belief that the system will get you an overflow of wins. Why? Because using betting systems do not guarantee higher odds of winning. What betting systems can do for you, though, is to help you get short-term wins.

If you keep using these strategies, you can get a win as easily as you can get a few losses along the way. But if you choose your strategy wisely and know when to call it quits, you might just accrue more wins than losses.
